Are you sure you have not abducted my son? You are describing my child exactly!

“Actual garbage” 😂 My five year old has three grocery bags of parts of broken toys he’s taken apart. We’ve started telling family members to buy him broken toys from used stores as gifts so he can take them apart 😆

If I had to pick a winning toy for our children it would be the huge piece of irrigation culvert? (pipe? it's big enough for them to crawl through) that my husband brought home from work. They roll each other around the yard in it, stand on it, crawl through it, sit in it, turn it the wrong way and jump inside it... It's been re-purposed into countless things. Oh! Also the wagon (again, I think it was like a gardening wheelbarrow thing -- it tips and dumps). It's big enough for them to sit in, but small enough to haul around the yard. Can be turned into a wagon, a cannon, etc.. etc...

k. Just saying thank you. I don't feel alone anymore. I too have a child (maybe more than one?) obsessed with pirates/sea shanties. I have strange and arguably questionable ballads singing me to sleep at night and a toddler who randomly belts out, yohoho and a bottle of rum in the middle of Target. I wish I had a meme for my face when I listened to a supposedly kid friendly Disney CD of pirate songs. Most of it is pretty innocuous (if pirates can be such), but we have 3 songs on skip now. Two of them the kids opted to skip on their own because it was too scary and one (Whale of a Tale) that I pretty horrified with. I never wanted to be one of those parents, but I couldn't handle the mental image I got every time I heard that song--not to mention the complete disrespect of women in the song--most of whom are probably not white. I'm kinda poking at myself here. But also, kinda not.

Anyway, we just introduced them to Muppets Treasure Island. It was a big hit! Before that we had Swiss Family Robinson (the 60s Disney version) on repeat whenever we went on a long trip in our van. So now we have some variety. Who knows--maybe they'll be ready for some Gilbert and Sullivan soon? (Well, after I do a quick content check, because apparently that's a thing now.)

Also, yes! Sticks! ROCKS and cereal boxes/TP rolls are the BEST. I'm sorry for your Kingdomino game, tho. RIP.
