I didn’t vote beehives because I think they’re a lot of work BUT James’ grandparents used to keep bees and it’s on my bucket list to one day have a hive ourselves!

Totally beehives!! The honey you used to get was the very best!

My vote for chickens! We got 4 last summer and they are so much fun (with the added bonus of eggs!) Lifesavers for us: 9x13 chicken run around where the coop is so that we can keep them contained/safer when we're away and an automatic chicken door that we installed after the fact. They free-range around the backyard during the day since we don't have any precious landscaping. Re the automatic door: they only dilly-dallied one time and got locked out. (I let them in, but they learned that when the sun's getting low, they better get into the coop.)

Such a great article! we started a beehive on our property last spring (my husband who grew up on a farm is the one who's "in charge" of it, lol) and we really love having it. The kids find it fascinating, too, and I feel like they are helping to pollinate everything and our neighbor's properties, too! Can't wait to see what you choose to do this summer with the kids!

Those sorts of sandwiches are my favorite! Just missing a little avocado . . .
